Filling a Gardentub with 300 litres of fresh water for every single session is a clear example of unnecessary water waste – not to mention the extra cost. That’s why we searched for a practical solution to minimise water wastage. Below we share exactly how we achieved it.
The Setup That Changed Everything
For the past two weeks I have been running the Intex C330 filter pump in combination with the SUNSUN (Wiltech) CUV-111 UV lamp.
Where I previously struggled with algae growth, the water has now stayed crystal clear for a full two weeks. The Gardentub stands on a balcony in sunny Spain and is partially exposed to direct sunlight. Without the UV lamp, algae would appear after only three days. That problem is now a thing of the past.
With a few fittings and some simple DIY work we created an ideal circulation system that keeps the water in excellent condition – even in the Spanish and Portuguese climat
Practical Tips for Long-Lasting Clear Water
– Always use the cover after bathing. It keeps dirt out and blocks excessive sunlight.
– Because our cover has a cut-out for the faucet, we can still run the filter system even when the cover is fully in place.
– A timer is a useful addition so the pump and UV lamp run automatically at set times.
– Always shower before entering the Gardentub. Sunscreen and dead skin cells quickly cloud the water.
– Add small amounts of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to keep the pH balanced.
– Clean or replace the filter cartridge regularly.
Extra Setup Tips for Best Performance
– Replace the transparent hose that comes with the Intex C330 with a 32 mm non-transparent hose. This prevents algae growth inside the hose itself.
– Keep all piping as short as possible to maintain good pressure.
– Use sturdy hose clamps to avoid leaks.
– Prefer 19 mm garden hose for minimal pressure loss (16 mm also works).
